May 2nd
through May 8th: Monday I got up early and took the Dibbs to
the airport. Sister Dibb had received
permission to go home for a week to attend the wedding of a granddaughter and Elder
Dibb started to have some problems with his heart. So after talking to his cardiologist, we
determined it would be best if he went home and got things checked out. As of right now we think they will be able to
return on the 16th. We hope
and pray they will be back soon. We did the shopping run and then in the
afternoon went and saw “The Jungle Book”.
We all enjoyed getting out and for some it was the first movie they had
been to in maybe 30 years (not saying who that might have been).
At the movies. We all had recliners. |
Tuesday
we had the afternoon shift. Wednesday we had presidency
meeting. Thursday we had the morning shift.
It was a bit slow so I volunteered to be a patron for initiatory. In the
afternoon, we went downtown to find what we thought was a museum of an old 19th
century home. We found it, but it was
really just a restaurant in an old 19th century home. They let us walk around and see how the home
would have been furnished during the late 1800’s. We then walked around looking for places we
could take the missionaries. We found an
old church and two government buildings.
The restaurant in the 19th century home. |
The Gallo family of Gallo beer owned this home and many personal item like this wedding dress were on display. |
The San Fransisco church. |
The alter was all wood. Very beautiful woodwork. |
This government building reminded me of the Moors for some reason. |
Very cool building. |
This is the other government building we found. |
It was much older and of course had a inner courtyard. |
It's front door was very impressive. |
On the way back to the car I took this photo of two really old sinks through an open window from the sidewalk. |
Friday we had the afternoon shift.
Saturday we had off and so in the morning took all the missionaries for
an early run to a new store that has a lot of imported food products. In the
afternoon, went over and did sealings.
Sunday we went and spoke in the El Frutal stake conference. It was a nice meeting.

Mom felt sick during the meeting and she went
to bed when we got home. Later, we took
all the missionaries to the Smith’s home for Family Home Evening. Josh and Jill Smith and their three children
moved into the ward a few months ago. He
works at the Embassy with US Aid. They
just finished a 4 year assignment in Zimbabwe.
They showed slides and talked about how the church is growing so fast in
Africa. It was very sobering to hear how AIDS has affected the country. One in every 4 children have lost one or both
parents to AIDS. The Smiths loved their
time in Zimbabwe and said the members are so thrilled that a temple has been
announced for their country. It was very interesting. Sister Smith has started
teaching art classes. I am going to sign up and see if she can help me get
motivated to paint again. I will only
have to miss one class out of 3. They
are taught on Friday mornings. So the
week we are on shift in the morning I will have to miss, but the other two
weeks in the 3 week rotation I will be able to go. I am so excited to have a class that will force
me to paint. Another week that went by
so fast and left us feeling very blessed and honored to be able to serve the good
people of Guatemala.
